Welcome to the first week of the 2017-2018 School Year!!
We are so excited for this new school year!! It will be simply wonderful!! Did you go to our Ice Cream Social? Did you talk to your child's new teacher? Did you meet new families? We had a blast and we hope you did too.
Here is some information on what's happening this week to get you ready for this new school year, from first day to lunch menu. Just to give you a little taste of what this new year will bring, let me share with you the exciting news that we are having a Reidenbaugh Play this year! Thanks to Jen Finkelstein, Reidenbaugh will be presenting Madagascar Jr. Keep you eyes open as more information on that will come later in the year. Please remember we are now using the reidpto@gmail.com email address.
1ST DAY OF SCHOOL: Today, Monday, August 28 at 9:00AM school starts for grades 1 to 4. For our Kindergarten, we will have an open house from 10am to 12pm and from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Pick a time and come in with your child to meet our wonderful teachers! The first day of school for kindergarten is Tuesday, August 29 at 9:00AM. Reidenbaugh opens its doors at 8:45AM.
SCHOOL BUS: Students should be at their designated stop ten minutes before the scheduled pick up time. Please be patient for the first few days of school as buses generally run behind schedule the first several days.
SUMMER READING BUCKET LIST: How did your child do with his/her Summer Reading Bucket List? Mrs. Eachus is always looking out for our kids and it was no different over the summer. She put together a super fun bucket list to encourage our kids to keep up with their reading and writing. Now is the time to bring it back to school. They can turn it in to Mrs. Eachus or their new teachers for a little surprise. We have linked here the Bucket List, the Reading Response and the Summer Journal.
NO SCHOOL: In observance of Labor Day, Reidenbaugh Elementary School will be closed on Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4.
BACK TO SCHOOL PARENT NIGHT: Back to School night will take place on Wednesday, September 6. This is a special night for the parents. Teachers will open their classroom to the parents to come in and see where their children sit, what they have done so far, what they will learn this year and set up a teacher-parent conference date (that will take place in November). Parents will also get to hear from Mrs. Smith, our principal and meet us, PTO parents. This is for parents only.
RECYCLING IN THE LIBRARY: Our dear Mrs. Winters is always thinking of new ways to motivate our children to read. She has come up with this fantastic idea of using cards (birthday cards, greeting cards, thank you cards...) that the kids have received and turning them into bookmarks. So if you have some cards that you might throw out, please send them to school in bag written library. Just a few per family will be enough. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Winters at winterka@mtwp.net.
X2F FALL 2017 SEASON: Xcel2 Fitness, X2F, is a national fitness and leadership development program for boys in graders 3-5. I know you're familiar with Girls on the Run, this is similar, but it's for boys only. After a 6-week training program, we end with "The Big Event" - an obstacle course using the physical activities the boys learned throughout the program. This past spring we had 10 schools from throughout the Susquehanna Valley participate. We are looking for 2 coaches for theX2F Fall 2017 season! If you are willing to coach a group of Reidenbaugh boys or if you have any questions, please contact Bill Caloviras (717) 278-1745 or billc@xcel2fitness.com.
